Ojá is a restaurant with a unique story in the Valle de Guadalupe. The name “Ojá” means precious stone in Kumiai, in honor of the Kumiai community located in this emblematic region, between Tecate, Ensenada, and its surroundings.
It´s history dates back to 2013 when they opened their first establishment at Revolución Avenue in Tijuana. However, the dream of expanding and creating something unique led them to Valle de Guadalupe three years ago, where they opened La Justina Valle, the first step towards realizing their vision.
Ojá finds its inspiration in the region it is located, giving homage to the local culture and traditions. In particular, they have been drawn to the mystery and charm of the communities, especially the Kumiai. They are an integral part of the region, and Ojá adopts their name, which means “precious stone” in Kumiai, as a symbol of their connection to the land and its people.
Since it´s inauguration, Ojá has captivated diners with its distinctive design and ambiance. Instead of following the conventional style of square restaurants with separate areas, Ojá has strived to create a harmonious circular space. This unique layout allows visitors to interact and enjoy the view of the aquatic elements representing the presence of water, trees, and, of course, beverages and food found in this gastronomic oasis.
Every detail in Ojá reflects its artisanal and familial approach. The walls are designed and constructed by hand, with a line in the center painted with a color obtained from a special ant called “chicatana,” found in cacti and nopales of the region. This artisanal approach extends to the painting, structure, and even the attire of the staff, creating an authentic and meaningful experience.
Oja’s cuisine draws inspiration from the Mediterranean, using ingredients such as olive, rosemary, and lavender that grow in the valley. These emblematic ingredients are presented in delicious dishes representative of the region, such as fresh tuna and vegetables from local orchards. Additionally, Ojá has established a relationship with Ranch Number 17 in Sonora, which provides quality meats for their culinary creations, from Wagyu beef sliders to the impressive 1.5 kg tomahawk steak.
Mixology is another highlight at Ojá, where they have created a series of unique cocktails with high-quality spirits. One of their most emblematic drinks is the “Curandero,” which combines mezcal, citrus, and epazote, an ingredient used in shamanic cleanses. The drink is served with a handmade pasote frost on top, creating a captivating visual and sensory experience.
In addition to excellent food and drinks, Ojá also offers a visual and thematic experience through its connection with nature and animals.
